SPEARFISH, S.D. -- The Minot State women's basketball team got a 25-point showing from the bench, but fell 61-50 to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets on the road Thursday.
Kate Head led the Beavers (2-1 overall) with nine points and seven rebounds. Jaime Skeggs added 10 points and two steals off the bench and Kennedy Harris chipped in as well with six points off the bench.
Minot State collected 37 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to Black Hills State's 35, led by Head's seven boards. The Beavers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 14 second-chance points.
The Beavers forced 19 Black Hills State turnovers while committing 14 themselves in Thursday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into nine points on the other end of the floor. Vilborg Jonsdottir led the way individually with two steals.

Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Black Hills State kept adding to that lead, building a 36-19 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Emma Mogen, to narrow its deficit to 36-24. The Beavers were unable to narrow the gap any further, but did not lose ground either and entered halftime with a 41-29 deficit.
Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 55-39 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled four of the team's 10 third-quarter points.
Minot State narrowed its deficit to 56-42 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Harris' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 56-47 with 6:34 to go in the contest. Black Hills State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 61-50. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two 3-point shots to account for six of its 11 points.
