MINOT, N.D. – Riding the momentum of a four-set win to close out their home schedule, the Minot State volleyball team is poised to play spoiler on the road this weekend as the Beavers wrap-up their 2022 season.
Minot State (1-24 overall, 1-17 NSIC) plays at No. 8 ranked St. Cloud State on Friday at 6 p.m., then concludes the season at No. 5 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
The Huskies are looking to secure the No. 4 spot in the NSIC standings and head into the weekend tied with Southwest Minnesota State, both teams boasting 13-5 league records.
As for the Bulldogs, they can climb into a share of the league title with two wins – and some help, as they are third currently at 15-3 in NSIC play.
St. Cloud State (21-5, 13-5), is led by junior outside hitter Kenzie Foley (2
nd in the NSIC with 355 total kills), graduate student and outside hitter Linsey Rachel (7
th in the NSIC with 295 total kills), and senior middle blocker Phebie Rossi, all of whom were named to the NSIC First Team today.
Minnesota Duluth (23-3, 15-3) is led by sophomore right side Samantha Paulsen and sophomore outside hitter Cianna Selbitschka (10
th in the NSIC with 290 total kills), who also each were First Team All-NSIC selections.
Minot State is led by sophomore outside hitter Alexander Koontz who turned in a double-double with team-highs of 15 kills and 16 digs in Saturday's win over Minnesota Crookston. She leads the team with 164 kills and is second this season with 155 digs.
She is backed up offensively by sophomore middle blocker Taylor Wyatt, who has 135 kills and 41 blocks, and sophomore opposite hitter
Emily Kotelnikoff, who has 126 kills and 28 blocks.
Defensively, true freshman Viktoria Sedova leads the way with 161 digs while sophomore Kendal Braun has 149 digs, including a career-high 18 digs Friday night against Bemidji State.
Leading the way at setter are true freshmen Jaina Macaulay with 342 assists, and Lucia Mercolini with 238 assists, as the Beavers rely on a two-setter system.
This weekend's matches will be rematches for the Beavers, who fell in three sets to both St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth back in September.
