MINOT, ND --Natasha Elliott grabbed 11 rebounds and Emma Mogen added 11 more, but the Minot State women's basketball team fell to the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 77-58 at home Saturday.
Mogen and Elliott's fantastic rebounding performances led the Beavers (8-16, 6-11) in the contest. Mogen tacked on two points and four assists and Elliott added 17 points and two steals. Kate Head also helped out with 14 points, four assists and two steals.
Led by Elliott's four offensive rebounds, Minot State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-14 halftime deficit.
Minnesota-Duluth continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 54-31 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 54-37 with 1:16 to go in the third. Minnesota-Duluth countered and stretched its lead to 59-39 heading into the fourth.
Minot State narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 77-58. Minot State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring five of its 19 total points.
