ABERDEEN, SD --Janie Wunderlich racked up 10 rebounds, but the Minot State women's basketball team fell to the Northern State Wolves 83-60 on the road Thursday.
Wunderlich tacked on eight points to her 10-rebound game for the Beavers (8-17, 6-12). Natasha Elliott helped out with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals and Calli Delsman chipped in with 14 points and three blocks.
If Minot State secures a victory on Saturday, Feb 19, against MSU Moorhead, the Beavers will earn a playoff spot.
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 30-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 54-25 halftime deficit.
Northern State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 60-25 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Emma Mogen, to trim its deficit to 60-30 with 7:03 to go in the third. The Beavers were unable to cut further into the deficit, but did not cede ground to Northern State either and entered the fourth quarter trailing 73-43.
Northern State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 80-49 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 80-55 with 4:11 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept their comeback going, but Northern State managed to hold on for the 83-60 win. Minot State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring eight of its 17 total points.
