MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team out-rebounded the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons 31-26, but fell 87-76 at home Saturday.

The Beavers (15-9, 9-9) had three players score in double figures, led by Melvin Newbern, who had 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. Max Cody tacked on 15 points and six assists and Kody Dwyer helped out with 12 points.

Minot State grabbed 31 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Minnesota State-Moorhead's 26, led by Newbern's six boards.

NEXT UP: Minot State opens the postseason hosting Southwest Minnesota State in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Tip-off for the playoffs is set for 6 p.m.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 16-10 advantage, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 11:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Jaxon Gunville, to increase its lead to 23-10. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 37-31 advantage. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 37 points close to the basket.

Minnesota State-Moorhead then erased the Minot State lead in the game's final quarter for an 87-76 comeback victory. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 32 of its 39 points in the lane.
