Five Beavers score in double digits in Minot State's 86-66 win against Minnesota-Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. -- Five Beavers put up double-digit points as Minot State defeated the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 86-66 on the road Saturday.

The Beavers (13-7 overall, 7-7 NSIC) were led by Ben Bohl who had 19 points and three steals. Max Cody added 19 points and five steals, and Jaxon Gunville chipped in as well with 15 points off the bench.

Minot State pulled down 35 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Minnesota Crookston's 32, led by 10 boards from Melvin Newbern.

The Minot State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 17 Minnesota Crookston turnovers while committing six. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Cody's five steals led the way individually for the Beavers.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-7, Minot State went on an 11-0 run with 12:58 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Gunville to take an 18-13 lead. The Beavers then added eight points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 42-29 advantage. Minot State capitalized on 10 Minnesota Crookston turnovers in the period, turning them into 16 points on the other end of the floor.

Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Cody's layup, to grow the lead to 78-62 with 1:58 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 86-66 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 44 points in the lane.
