CROOKSTON, Minn. --The Minot State women's basketball team could not keep up in a 91-65 loss to the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles on the road Saturday.
The Beavers (8-14 overall, 6-9 NSIC) had three players score in double figures, led by Amber Stevahn, who had 18 points. Kate Head added 17 points and four assists, and Lucy Chapman helped out with 11 points and six rebounds.
Led by Emma Mogen's three offensive rebounds, Minot State did a great job crashing the offensive glass pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 14 second-chance points.
Minot State forced 14 Minnesota-Crookston turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Saturday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Natasha Elliott led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 8-3, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 7:38 left in the first quarter to take a 9-8 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 26-20.
Minnesota-Crookston kept adding to that lead, building a 29-20 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Stevahn, to narrow its deficit to 29-27. Minnesota-Crookston responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Beavers trailing 47-38 heading into halftime.
Minnesota-Crookston continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 54-38 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run to trim its deficit to 54-45 with 5:24 to go in the third. Minnesota-Crookston countered and stretched its lead to 69-51 heading into the fourth. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 91-65. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
