HENDERSON, Nev. – The title might have eluded Minot State's
Taylor Cormier but she still turned in a fantastic finish to start off the spring season.
The sophomore from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, shot a 12-over 84 on Friday, backing up her 11-over 83 from Thursday as she finished sixth individually at 23-over 167 at The Legacy Invitational hosted by Winona State at The Legacy Golf Club in Nevada.
Her performance led a strong two-day effort for the Minot State women who finish fifth as a team as they returned to the links for the spring by shooting rounds of 352 and 346 for a 122-over 698.
While Minot State women finished fifth, the Beaver men were 16
th with a two-day total of 88-over 664 (338-326) and were led by
Easton Evanoff who tied for 33
rd individual at 15-over 159 (80-79).
Host Winona State swept the women's titles winning the team crown with a 91-over 667 (339-328) and was led by individual champion Carly Moon who shot a 17-over 161 (84-77).
Northeastern State (Okla.) won the men's team title shooting a 28-over 604 (305-299) and was led by individual champion Carlos Gomez who shot a 4-under 140 (72-68).
While Cormier led the way for the Beavers, teammate
Anya Ross added a Top-20 performance as she tied for 12
th at 27-over 171 (86-85).
Kaitlynn Criswell added a 36-over 180 (87-93) as she tied for 27
th,
Jaci Jones was 33
rd at 42-over 186 (96-90), and
Holly Knudsen tied for 34
th at 46-over 190 (103-87).
On the men's side for the Beavers,
Andrew Makarchuk tied for 42
nd at 17-over 161 (86-75),
Carlos Caloca tied for 47
th at 18-over 162 (80-82),
Colton Horn was 89
th at 38-over 182 (92-90), and
Sid Ullyott was 94
th at 47-over 191 (96-95).
Back in action for the spring, the Minot State women get almost two weeks off before returning to the course for their next event, playing at the Midwest Intercollegiate in Bolivar, Mo., hosted by Drury on March 21-22. The Beaver men's team will be in action just down the road a week later playing at the NSIC Conference Preview in Blue Springs, Mo., March 28-29.
