Beavers come out strong but can't derail 6th-ranked Saint Cloud State



MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State volleyball came out ready to rumble with the sixth-ranked Saint Cloud State Huskies on Saturday at the MSU Dome.

Grabbing an early 8-3 lead in the first set set the tone for the Beavers who battled all afternoon, but fell 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 at home to the nationally-ranked Huskies (10-0 overall, 2-0 NSIC).

Minot State (0-9, 0-2) is back in action on the road this coming Friday playing at Minnesota Crookston.

Alexandra Koontz finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Beavers offense. The Beavers also got eight digs from Viktoria Sedova to lead them defensively.

Coaches Comments
"These two teams that we played are very talented, they're nationally ranked," Minot State head coach Alex Lehocky said of No. 6 St. Cloud State and Friday's opponent, 14th-ranked Minnesota Duluth, "but I felt like – especially today – we came out, we did our job, we watched our film and we did what we were supposed to do to be able to compete. I felt we did a very good job of that"

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Beavers found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-14. After leading 8-3 early, Minot State trailed by as many as 11 points as Saint Cloud State grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up six times before the Huskies took control.

SET 2 | A 25-10 set-two loss put Minot State in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Beavers fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.

SET 3 | Minot State was not able to win set three and was swept by Saint Cloud State. The Beavers fell behind on the first point despite closing to within 22-19 late, never took the lead before falling in the set 25-19.
