BROOKINGS, S.D. – Minot State hurdler
Nathan Trujillo-Aragon has been chasing a record all season long.
Friday he caught it.
Trujillo-Aragon finished fifth overall in the 60-meter hurdles at the D-II Invitational indoor track and field meet hosted by South Dakota State, breaking his own school record in the event with a time of 8.46 seconds in the process.
That broke the old NCAA Division II school record of 8.47 that Trujillo-Aragon ran in 2021. It also puts him on track for yet another record mark as he now looks to beat the all-time school record of 8.44 run by Tyrone Lewis way back in 1987.
While he set the tone for the Beavers on their first day of competition in South Dakota,
Charles Hardcastle and
Jacob Jensen added wins on the day for the Minot State men, and
Sidra Sadowsky added a career-best effort for the Beaver women.
Hardcastle picked up his first win of this season in the mile on Friday, clocking a career-best time of 4 minutes, 25.14 seconds for the win.
Joining him in claiming victory was Jensen who won the 3,000 meters for his second victory of the winter. Last weekend Jensen won the men's 1,000 meters at a meet hosted by Mary.
On the women's side, Sadowsky was third in the 600 meters on Friday in 1 minute, 40.73 seconds, her career-best in the event.
Adding a third-place finish for Minot State was
Summer Krebsbach, who was third in the 60-meter dash in 8.08 on Friday.
Minot State continues its weekend of competition at SDSU on Saturday, competing against NCAA Division I and Division II schools at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational.
