Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Minot State falls 75-58 to Southwest Minnesota State

MINOT, ND --
After a strong game against Sioux Falls on Friday night, the Minot State women's basketball team fell 75-58 to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs at home Saturday in NSIC action, after getting a 22-point showing from the bench.

"A strong defense marked today's game, but sadly not enough rebounds," said Minot State head coach Mike Brandt.

The Beavers (6-10 overall, 2-8 NSIC) had two players score in double figures led by Kate Head, who had 20 points. Alexandra Baker tacked on 10 points from the bench, and Emma Mogen added six points and three steals.

How It Happened

Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 40-27 halftime deficit.

Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 62-42 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period as non-starters totaled four of the team's 15 third-quarter points.

Southwest Minnesota State kept widening its lead in the fourth, creating a 65-44 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Head's three, to shrink the deficit to 65-51 with 5:35 to go in the contest. Southwest Minnesota State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 75-58. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.

Looking Forward
"Evaluating what's necessary to keep moving on; pursuing the basketball and the rebounds; not give up many second shots will be worked on," Coach Brandt said.
