MINOT, ND -- Khari Broadway scored 20 points, but the Minot State men's basketball team fell to the No. 2-ranked Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons 77-74 at the MSU Dome on Saturday in NSIC action.
The Beavers (8-3 overall, 4-2 NSIC) had three players score in double figures, led by Broadway, who had 20 points. Ben Bohl added 13 points and Connor Hollenbeck chipped in as well with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Broadway pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead the Minot State offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 13 second-chance points.
Coach's Comments
"Really proud overall of our effort, we had we had great responses at times," Minot State head coach Matt Murken said. "Certainly things to grow from, certainly things to watch and say, 'Man, we can finish that, we can make a better decision there.'
"But for the most part, they make a play, we respond, we make a play, they respond; and it was just a great, it was a great battle and it's something to grow from it and move forward from."
How It Happened
After falling behind 25-21, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 5:24 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Caleb Van De Griend, to take a 28-25 lead. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 36-34 advantage. Minot State did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 36 points close to the basket.
Minnesota State Moorhead proceeded to take a 52-46 lead before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Jaxon Gunville's three, to shrink the deficit to 52-51 with 11:11 to go in the contest. Minnesota State Moorhead responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-74. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 38 points in the lane.
