Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Minot State back in form after 76-61 post-holiday win over Minnesota Crookston

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State men's basketball team got a 32-point showing from the bench on the way to a 76-61 win over the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles in a non-conference game at the MSU Dome on Saturday.

The Beavers (9-3 overall, 4-2 NSIC) had three players score in double figures, led by Jalen Cook, who had 15 points. Khari Broadway tacked on 15 points and Michael Jok helped out with 14 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Minot State took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 17 assists on 33 made field goals. Individually, Jaxon Gunville was on top of the distribution list for the Beavers with four assists and Broadway also added three assists of his own.

Minot State's defense held Minnesota Crookston to only 39 percent shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with seven offensive rebounds and managed four second-chance points while Minot State cleared 30 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 3-2 advantage, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 18:16 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Caleb Van De Griend, to increase its lead to 11-2. The Beavers then added five points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 41-27 advantage. Minot State did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 41 points close to the basket.

Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Gunville's three, to grow the lead to 70-49 with 4:13 to go in the contest. The Golden Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 76-61 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 35 points in the lane.
