Minot State shoots 55.6 percent from deep, beats Concordia, Saint Paul 103-65

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- The Minot State men's basketball team shot 55.6 percent from deep on the way to a 103-65 victory against the Concordia, Saint Paul Golden Bears on the road Friday in NSIC play.
 

The Beavers (10-3 overall, 5-2 NSIC) had five players score in double figures, led by Ben Bohl, who had 19 points. Caleb Van De Griend added 16 points off of the bench and Khari Broadway helped out with 14 points and six rebounds.


The Minot State offense was strong from downtown, pouring in 10 threes on 18 attempts. Jaxon Gunville hit two treys for the Beavers in the contest.
 

Minot State's defense held Concordia, Saint Paul to only 36.5 percent shooting from the field, including 27.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Bears did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed six second-chance points while Minot State cleared 37 defensive rebounds.
 

How It Happened

After falling behind 12-10, Minot State went on a 17-0 run with 16:24 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Jalen Cook, to take a 27-12 lead. The Beavers then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 56-35 advantage. Minot State did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 28 of its 56 points close to the basket.
 

Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 63-41 before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Van De Griend's jumper, to grow the lead to 72-41 with 14:39 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 103-65 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 47 points in the lane.
