MINOT, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team got a 21-point performance from the bench, but fell 68-40 to the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons at the MSU Dome on Saturday in NSIC action.
 

Peyton Breidenbach led the Beavers (3-11 overall, 1-5 NSIC) with 10 points and four steals. Emily Srejma added eight points and Ashley Wacha helped out with six points and two blocks from the bench.

The Minot State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Minnesota State Moorhead turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the offensive end of the floor. Breidenbach's four steals led the way individually for the Beavers.

Coach's Comments
"We couldn't shoot the ball and we didn't do a very good job defensively, and so they just took it to us," Minot State head coach Mike Brandt said. "Very young team on the other side, just like ours, but they definitely came in with a lot more grit, a lot more toughness; were on the loose balls, were on the offensive boards blocking out; give them credit, they really took it to us."

How It Happened

Minot State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 17-15.

Minnesota State Moorhead kept adding to that lead, building a 20-15 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Srejma, to take a 21-20 lead. The Dragons then came roaring back to take a 31-22 lead heading into halftime.

Minnesota State Moorhead continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 42-25 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Breidenbach, to trim its deficit to 42-30 with 2:12 to go in the third. Minnesota State Moorhead countered and stretched its lead to 48-34 heading into the fourth. Minot State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 12 total points.
 

Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 68-40. Minot State took advantage of five Minnesota State Moorhead turnovers in the quarter, scoring three points off of those takeaways.
