BROOKINGS, S.D. – After a strong day in Minnesota on Friday, the Minot State track and field teams returned to action at the power-packed South Dakota State Indoor Classic on Saturday and turned in a couple more top times as the Beavers prepare for the NSIC Championships later this month.
Francis Short Bull and
Grayson Bonilla led the way with top performances in the 400 meters and the 5,000 meters for the Minot State men, while
Chase Snyder and
Juan Gutierrez added top-10 finishes at the meet, as well.
Short Bull ran the fastest time of the season by a Beaver in the men's 400, finishing 22
nd overall in 50.19 seconds on Saturday. That also vaulted Short Bull up the NSIC standings to No. 13 in the event this winter.
As for Bonilla, he clocked the fastest time this season for Minot State in the 5,000 meters finishing 66
th in 16 minutes, 5.91 seconds on Saturday.
While they turned in top times, adding a top finish was Snyder, who last week broke the NCAA Division II school record in the shot put. Snyder was seventh in the event at the SDSU Indoor Classic with a throw of 50 feet, 11.5 inches this Saturday.
And Gutierrez was 10
th in the men's 600 meters in 1:23.82 on Saturday.
For the Minot State women,
Nicole Reeves ran her best mile time of 5:22.89, good for 44th and the second-best effort this winter by a Beaver woman, right behind
Sidra Sadowsky.
And
Jessica Martinez clocked the second-fastest Minot State 3,000 this winter, a personal-best for her as she finished 33
rd at the SDSU Indoor Classic, putting her right behind teammate
Emery Smith in the event.
With the season winding down and the NSIC Championships, hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato on Feb. 24-25, quickly approaching, the Beavers get one more tune-up as they compete at the Marauder Tune-up next Saturday hosted by the University of Mary.
