MARSHALL, Minn. -- Cam'ron Dunfee hit a buzzer-beating shot with only one second left in the third overtime to lead the Minot State men's basketball team past the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs 86-85 on the road Tuesday in the first round of the NSIC Tournament.
The Beavers (11-16 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Khari Broadway, who had 19 points and three steals. Ben Bohl added 18 points and three steals and Dunfee helped out with 15 points.
The Minot State offense made hay from downtown, pouring in 13 threes on 32 attempts. Bohl hit four treys for the Beavers in the contest.
Minot State forced 16 Southwest Minnesota State turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Tuesday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Bohl's three steals led the way for Minot State.
The win, which avenges a first-round home playoff loss last season by Minot State at the hands of the Mustangs, sends the Beavers into the NSIC Quarterfinals hosted at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Minot State takes on regular-season champion Northern State on Saturday, Feb 25, at 4:30 p.m. The Beavers beat the Wolves 82-62 in Minot in December, while the Northern State topped Minot State 74-71 this past Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D.
