Minot State’s Camden Jasmin, Charles Hardcastle take turns breaking steeplechase record

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Minot State's Camden Jasmin and Charles Hardcastle took turns setting records on Thursday to start a busy weekend for the Beaver track and field teams.

Each competing in different meets in California, Jasmin started the day by breaking the NCAA Division II-era school record in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase Thursday morning at Pacific Coast Invitational hosted by Long Beach State.

Jasmin finished fifth in the steeplechase in 9 minutes, 56.45 seconds, breaking the Beaver school record of 10:02.11 in the event run by Gavin Jorgensen in 2021.

That record held up for 8 hours until, 40 miles away, teammate Hardcastle raced to another new steeplechase record at the Mt. SAC Relays, finishing 19th in 9:30.74.

Along with being a new D II-era school record, Hardcastle's time ranks him No. 3 in the NSIC. Jasmin's time ranks him No. 9 in the NSIC.

While they traded records on Thursday, Minot State's Nicole Reeves led the way for the Beaver women as she was seventh in the 1,500 meters at the Pacific Coast Invitational in a personal-best time of 5:04.61.

The lone Minot State competitors in action on Thursday, the Beavers hit their full stride Friday competing at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, along with the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California.
