LUBBOCK, Texas – The Minot State volleyball team saw its work on the practice court pay off Friday as the Beavers picked up their first win of the, battling to a thrilling five-set victory over Arkansas Tech in the teams' opening match at the Lubbock Christian Chaps Classic.
"The team earned this win," Minot State coach Alex Lehocky said. "They excelled in the skills we worked on this past week in practice. It was exciting to see it come together."
Minot State (1-5 overall) scored a 25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 16-25, 15-7 victory in the morning match before falling 25-13, 25-14, 25-8 to Oklahoma Christian in Beavers second match on Friday.
Minot State is back in action Saturday in the tournament playing Southern Arkansas at 9 a.m. and host Lubbock Christian at 1 p.m.

LUBBOCK, Texas --The Minot State volleyball team displayed remarkable fortitude in a 3-2 victory over the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Friday at Rip Griffin Center.
The Beavers were led by a double-double from Maggie Machado, who registered 11 kills and 19 digs on the day. Sydney Upton also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Kendal Braun chipped in for with 21 digs to go with three blocks from Taylor Wyatt.

SET 1 | The Beavers took control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never looked back to win 25-19. Minot State led by 10 points at 18-8 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills along the way.
SET 2 | Minot State then lost the second set 26-24, evening the match at a set apiece. The Beavers fought back from a seven-point 13-6 deficit, but Arkansas Tech held on to take the set.
SET 3 | Minot State then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Beavers survived a furious Arkansas Tech rally in the set, hanging on to win 25-22 after leading by seven points at 17-10 earlier in the stanza.
SET 4 | Minot State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Golden Suns forced a fifth set with a 25-16 victory. The Beavers trailed by as many as 11 points as Arkansas Tech grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 and Minot State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up three times before the Golden Suns took over.
SET 5 | Minot State and Arkansas Tech went back and forth all match, trading set wins until the Beavers took set five 15-7 and the match. The Beavers scored first and never trailed in the fifth set to secure the victory. Minot State opened up as much as an 8-point lead at 12-4 before finishing off the set.
Oklahoma Christian def. Minot State 25-13, 25-14, 25-8
LUBBOCK, Texas --The Minot State volleyball team lost to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in straight sets (13-25, 14-25, 8-25) Friday at Rip Griffin Center.
Taylor Wyatt finished with five kills on the day to lead the Beavers attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .333. The Beavers got seven digs from Maggie Machado to lead them defensively.
