MINOT, ND -- Five Beavers put up double-digit points as Minot State knocked off the Sioux Falls Cougars 78-60 at home Friday night in NSIC action as more than 1,000 fans helped the Beavers "Defend the Dome."
The Beavers (12-3 overall, 7-2 NSIC) had five players score in double figures, led by Connor Hollenbeck, who had 17 points. Khari Broadway tacked on 14 points and Caleb Van De Griend chipped in as well with 11 points off the bench.
"First game back at the Dome since break so that's been really good," Hollenbeck said. "I think we've been playing really well."
The Minot State defense held Sioux Falls shooters to only 31.9 percent from the field, including 21.9 percent from three-point range. The Beavers also kept Creighton Morisch to 3-of-12 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 35-24 advantage, Minot State went on a 9-0 run with 4:29 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Broadway, to increase its lead to 44-24. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 46-27 advantage. Minot State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 16 of its 46 total points.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Van De Griend's layup, to grow the lead to 73-49 with 6:21 to go in the contest. The Cougars narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 78-60 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 32 points in the lane.
