Beavers start strong but fall to visiting Minnesota Crookston

MINOT, ND -- The Minot State volleyball team jumped ahead 1-0, but couldn't hang on and lost 3-1 26-28, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 to the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles Saturday at home at MSU Dome in NSIC action.
 

The loss dropped Minot State's record to 1-19 overall and 0-13 in NSIC action.


Paulina Kowalska finished with 16 kills on the day to lead the Beavers attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .256. Defensively, Minot State had three players reach double figures in digs, including Madelynn Boop's 14, 13 from Jaina Macaulay, and 13 more from Viktoria Sedova. From the front row, Mia Thompson contributed five blocks.

Next up, Minot State hosts Dickinson State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., renewing an in-state rivalry with the Blue Hawks who the Beavers have not played since 2018.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Beavers persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 28-26 in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the set.


SET 2 | Minot State then fell in the second set 25-20, evening things at a set each. Minnesota Crookston grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Golden Eagles took over the lead.


SET 3 | Minot State fell again in set three to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Beavers fell in a tough set 25-19. Minot State trailed by as many as six points as Minnesota Crookston grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up five times before the Golden Eagles took over the lead.


SET 4 | Minot State lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-17. The Beavers trailed by as many as nine points as Minnesota Crookston grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 and Minot State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up just once before the Golden Eagles took over.
