BISMARCK, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team got a 36-point showing from the bench, but fell 89-69 to the Mary Marauders on the road Wednesday.
Jaime Skeggs led the Beavers (2-9, 1-3) with 20 points. Jessica Mogen also tacked on nine points and seven rebounds and Emma Mogen chipped in as well with eight points.
The Minot State offense was strong from deep, knocking down nine threes on 22 attempts. Skeggs hit three treys for the Beavers in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 8:53 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jessica Mogen, to take an 8-4 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 24-20.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-25 halftime deficit.
Mary continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 55-33 advantage before Minot State went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Katie Aberle, to trim its deficit to 55-41 with 2:59 to go in the third. Mary countered and stretched its lead to 63-46 heading into the fourth. Minot State knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 21 total points.
Mary kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 83-55 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Skeggs' layup, to shrink the deficit to 83-62 with 3:28 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept their comeback going, but Mary managed to hold on for the 89-69 win. Minot State took advantage of four Mary turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
