JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Last week the action took place inside the Beavers bubble. Now, it's the Jimmies turn to host.
The Minot State softball team travels down the road for a pair of non-conference games against in-state foe Jamestown on Tuesday, the second half of a home-and-home, four-game series between the teams that started on Minot State's campus last Tuesday.
The Beavers took both those games in thrilling fashion as Minot State (5-1 overall) scored a 4-3, walk-off win in 8 innings in the opener then held off a late charge by the Jimmies (6-2) for a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
Since then, Jamestown has been on a roll as the Jimmies welcomed Valley City State, Dickinson State, Mayville State, the University of Mary, and Northern State to their new bubble – the Nelson Family Dome – for a weekend tournament that saw Jamestown win six in a row.
That win streak included three wins over Minot State's NSIC colleagues the Marauders, 9-1 in 6 innings and 1-0, and the Wolves, 6-3.
Leading the way for the Jimmies have been freshman Hope Ransome and sophomore Abby Blair in the circle as the duo have combined for five wins. Ransome pitched 7 innings but did not factor into the decision against the Beavers in the teams' 8-inning game, and Blair took the loss against Minot State in the twinbill nightcap.
Offensively, Ransome was 4-for-6 with a home run and 2 RBIs against the Beavers, while Maddie Spaeth and Trinity Gregg each had three hits and Gregg drove in 2 more runs.
Gregg continues to be a tough out as she's hitting .464 on the season with 7 RBIs, as does Ransome as she is hitting .438 with 4 RBIs.
Also swinging a hot bat is Gentrey Turin, who is hitting .556 with 3 RBIs, and Kayla Quintanilla who is hitting .400 with 6 RBIs.
As for the Beavers,
Taryn Bennett is hitting .438 with 8 RBIs, while
Abby Lohse is hitting .368 with a home run and 4 RBIs, and
Abbey Kelley is hitting .538 with 4 RBIs, as well. Also, freshman
Taylor Eatherton already is making an impact hitting .538 with 4 RBIs in just three games.
In the circle,
Kierra Fournier leads the way with a 2-0 record for the Minot State staff that is 5-1 with an impressive 1.88 ERA and 27 strikeouts of opposing batters.
