MANKATO, Minn. – The whole winter has led up to this weekend: The NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Minot State track and field teams swing into action this Friday and Saturday looking for All-NSIC honors and for NSIC Titles as the Indoor Championships get underway at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and continue Saturday starting at 9 a.m., hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato.
The Beavers claimed one title at the Indoor Championships last year and will look to build on that number this time around. They also brought home two All-NSIC honors which are awarded to top-3 finishers in individual events and top 2 in relays.
Two candidates for top honors include freshman men's high jumper
Jasiah Hambira and junior women's distance runner
Sidra Sadowsky, both of whom have hit NCAA qualifying marks this winter.
Hambira cleared 6 feet, 8.75 inches in the high jump which ranks him in a tie for 36
th in the nation and fourth in the NSIC.
Sadowsky clocked a time of 2 minutes, 14.11 seconds in the 800 meters which ranks 59
th in the nation and fifth in the NSIC.
Of course, several other Beaver student-athletes are ranked in the top 10 in the NSIC heading into this weekend's meet and poised for a possible All-NSIC finish, or to score team points for Minot State as a top 8 finisher in an event.
Devontae Daley might have the best chance of all the Beavers this weekend to bring home a title as he heads into the men's 600 meters No. 2 in the conference with a time of 1:21.60. Still he does have some time to make up on the league leader in Braxton Bruer from Minnesota State Moorhead who holds the top time of 1:19.70.
Daley also heads into the 800 meters at No. 10 with a time of 1:57.64.
On the women's side,
Bailey Wride and Sadowsky both are set up for a big days as both are top 10 student-athletes in multiple events with Sadowsky 5
th in the 800 and 4th in the 1,000 and Wride 4
th in the 1,000, as well, and 7
th in the 600. Sadowsky and Wride have the same 1,000-meter time of 3:01.75, while Wride has a time of 1:38.52 in the 600.
Also in position to score, or do more, are
Ramon Duran and
Nasir Dilworth for the Minot State men's team. Duran is No. 5 in the 400 meters with a time of 49.54 seconds and Dilworth is 10
th in the 60-meter hurdle with a time of 8.22 seconds.
