MANKATO, Minn. – Minot State's middle-distance runner
Peyton Tuhy led the way for the Beavers at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships, earning All-NSIC honors for his efforts.
Tuhy was the runner-up champion in the men's 1,000 meters on Saturday at the Championships, hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato, the top finish for Minot State's men's and women's teams.
His effort, combined with Friday's school-record effort by
Brayan Augustin in the long jump, scored the Beaver men 10 team points as Minot State finished 11
th in the team race.
On the women's side, two-time NSIC Indoor Champion
Bailey Wride led the way with a podium finish in the 1,000 meters, as well, as she finished 4
th in the event, earning the Beavers 5 team points.
Those 5 team points landed Minot State in 14
th place in the team standings.
The host school, Minnesota State, claimed both the men's and women's team titles.
Tuhy finished 2
nd and earned All-NSIC honors as he clocked a time of 2 minutes, 30.89 seconds in Saturday's 1,000-meter final, finishing just behind event champion Jadon Boots from Minnesota State Moorhead (2:29.46).
The other podium finish for the Beaver men on the weekend belonged to Agustin, who set a new NCAA Division II school record in the long jump, finishing 8
th with a leap of 22 feet, 8 inches.
On the women's side, Wride came into the weekend as the defending 1,000-meter champion and gave a valiant effort in her title defense, but ended up 4th this year in the 1,000 with a season-best time of 2:58.66.
Bemidji State's Sophie Rylance won the event in 2:55.85, Nyadio Chan from Concordia-St. Paul was 2
nd in 2:56.95, and Addison Peed from Minnesota State was 3
rd in 2:58.53.
While Tuhy, Augustin, and Wride led the way with podium finishes for the Beavers, a few others had their best day of the season as freshman women's thrower
Jamie Ward had a career-best effort in the shot put, finishing 26th with a throw of 37 feet, 5 inches, and
Afton Wride had a season-best in the triple jump as she was 13
th with a distance of 36-9.
The NSIC Indoor Championships wrapped up the indoor season for Minot State, which now will shift gears over the next 3 weeks in preparation for the outdoor season, which begins with the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, March 20-21, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
