WAYNE, NE --Maya Aguilar, Emma Mogen and Jessica Mogen combined to score 34 of Minot State's 45 total points, but the Beavers fell to the Wayne State College Wildcats 63-45 on the road Friday.
Aguilar led the Beavers (4-14, 3-8) with 13 points and 2 steals. Emma Mogen added 11 points and 9 rebounds and Jessica Mogen chipped in as well with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Minot State's defense held Wayne State (NE) to only 39.6 percent shooting from the field. The Wildcats did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with five offensive rebounds and managed 5 second chance points while Minot State cleared 27 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 3-2 advantage, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 8:39 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Taylor Goss, to increase its lead to 10-2. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 15-12 advantage. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down 3 shots to account for 9 of its 15 points.
Minot State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 9-0 run starting at the 7:48 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 24-14. The Wildcats cut into that lead, but the Beavers still enjoyed a 26-18 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State dominated in the paint, scoring six of its 11 points close to the basket.
Minot State then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Wildcats 46-35 entering the fourth. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring 8 of its 9 points in the paint.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 63-45. Minot State pulled down two offensive rebounds to score 2 second chance points out of 10 total in the period
