SIOUX FALLS, SD --The Minot State women's basketball team hit 12-of-26 attempts from 3-point range, shooting 46.2 percent from deep in a 69-55 victory against the Augustana (SD) Vikings on the road Saturday.
The Beavers (5-14, 4-8) had four players score in double figures, led by Sydney Gustavsson, who had 18 points. Emma Mogen tacked on 15 points, 4Â assists and 2Â steals and Maya Aguilar helped out with 14 points, 6Â rebounds and 2Â steals.
The Minot State offense was strong from downtown, pouring in 12 threes on 26 attempts. Aguilar hit 4Â treys for the Beavers in the contest.
Minot State forced 23 Augustana (SD) turnovers while committing 21 themselves in Saturday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 24 points on the other end of the floor. Aguilar's 2 steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2-0, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 7:53 left in the first quarter to take an 8-2 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 14-11.
Minot State then started off the second quarter by going on a 12-0 run, highlighted by a three from Aguilar, to take a 23-14 lead. The Beavers proceeded to tack on two points to that lead and enjoyed a 35-24 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down 6 three-point shots to account for 18 of its 24 points.
Following intermission, Minot State continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 43-30 before going on a 10-0 run to expand its lead further to 53-30 with 52 seconds to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Vikings had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Beavers still entered the fourth quarter with a 53-32 edge. Minot State took advantage of 6Â Augustana (SD) turnovers in the quarter, scoring 6Â points off of takeaways.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Cassidy King's layup, to grow the lead to 64-40 with 4:01 to go in the contest. The Vikings narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 69-55 win. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 8Â of its 16 points in the paint.
