JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Back in action once again, this time at the Jimmie Invitational hosted by Jamestown, senior
Emery Smith and junior
Jake Jenkins led the way for the Minot State women's and men's cross-country teams on Friday morning.
Smith finished the ladies' 6-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 2 seconds, finishing 23
rd overall, while Jenkins clocked a time of 26:39.9 on the men's 8K course, finishing 44
th for the Beavers.
"Emery and Jake had solid races," Minot State head coach
Steven Schultz said. "They put themselves around the chase pack and hung right with that crowd the whole time."
That set the tone for the Beavers on the day as the Minot State men finished 9
th with 264 points, while the Minot State women, running with just four team members, did not have a team score.
NCAA Division I programs North Dakota and North Dakota State finished first and second in both team races. The Fighting Hawk men won the title with 22 points, and the UND women won with 24 points.
The Fighting Hawks also swept the individual titles on the day as Louis-Lys Fanucchi won the men's race in 24:41.8, and Jadyn Keeler took the ladies' title in 19:54.9.
While Jenkins led the way for the Minot State men,
Holter Bridwell and
Camden Jasmin were next, finishing close together in 82
nd and 88
th place, respectively, in 28:15.7 and 28:38.7.
Nolan Berglof was next in 98
th in 29:20.3, then
Peyton Tuhy rounded out the scoring runners for the Beavers, finishing 100
th in 29:28.5.
Nikita Neyshtadt was 103
rd in 29:56.5,
Isaac Rathbun was 116
th in 32:23.9, and
Auston Lemer was 117
th in 32:36.1.
On the women's side,
Julie Folk was next behind Smith, finishing 55
th in 24:43.2, then
Nicole Reeves, who was 71
st in 26:07.3, and
Addyson Wendt, who was 76
th in 26:28.8.
The Minot State runners return to race action next week, competing at the Marauders Open next Friday at the McDowell Dam Recreation Area in the final regular-season tune-up before the NSIC Championship, October 24, in Wayne, Nebraska.
