Men's Cross Country

Minot State cross-country teams head to Bismarck for final regular-season meet

BISMARCK, N.D. – A return trip to the McDowell Dam Recreation Area will be the final tune-up for the Minot State cross-country teams this Friday before the Beavers open their championship season.

Minot State competes in the Marauders Open, with the women's race at 4 p.m. and the men running at 4:45 p.m. this Friday, running a familiar course in preparation for the NSIC Championships in two weeks.

The fourth regular-season meet of the fall for the Beavers, Minot State returns to a course where the Beavers enjoyed success in the season-opening Marauders Invitational as the women were 3rd as a team behind NCAA Division I North Dakota State and NSIC rival Mary, while the men were 4th as a team behind the Bison, Marauders, and Bismarck State.

Jake Jenkins led the way that opening day and has been the men's team leader all season long as the Beavers prepare for the postseason. So far this fall, Jenkins has steadily improved, running his fastest 8-kilometer time last weekend at the Jimmie Invitational, where he finished 44th in 26 minutes, 39.9 seconds.

Last time in Bismarck, Jenkins was 17th overall in 26:54.5.

On the women's side, senior Emery Smith ran a career-best 6K time of 22:45.0, finishing 10th at the first meet hosted by Mary. She also led the Beavers last week, finishing 49th in 24:53.6 at the Jimmie Invitational.

Teammate Bailey Wride has been equally strong for the Beavers, giving them a powerful one-two punch. Wride led the Minot State women in their second meet, the Roy Griak Invitational, finishing the 6K course in 24:29.5 for a 35th-place finish.

This Friday's tune-up will prepare Minot State for the championship season, which begins with the NSIC Championships on October 24, hosted by Wayne State.

The Beavers then head to the NCAA Central Region Championship in Joplin, Missouri, on November 8.
