BOZEMAN, MT --The Minot State women's basketball team got a 13-point showing from the bench, but fell 76-37 to the Montana State Bobcats on the road Monday.
Maya Aguilar led the Beavers (0-4) with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jaime Skeggs also tacked on seven points and two steals from the bench and Tiyahna Trottier chipped in as well with three points.
The Minot State offense made hay from deep, pouring in nine threes on 29 attempts. Aguilar hit four treys for the Beavers in the contest.
The Minot State defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 16 Montana State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into five points on the offensive end of the floor. Skeggs' two steals led the way individually for the Beavers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-3, Minot State went on a 9-0 run with 6:36 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Aguilar, to take a 12-9 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 21-13.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-20 halftime deficit.
Montana State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 44-23 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Skeggs, to trim its deficit to 44-29 with 5:57 to go in the third. Montana State countered and stretched its lead to 63-34 heading into the fourth. Minot State knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 14 total points.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 76-37. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring two of its three points in the paint.
