DULUTH, MN --Five Beavers scored in double digits, but Minot State fell to the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 83-69 on the road Thursday.
The Beavers (6-7, 3-3) had five players score in double figures, led by Maya Aguilar, who had 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Taryn Hamling added 15 points and three steals and Jaime Skeggs chipped in as well with 12 points off the bench.
The Minot State offense was very productive from beyond the arc, knocking down eight threes on 30 attempts. Aguilar was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining three treys in the contest.
Minot State forced 19 Minnesota-Duluth turnovers while committing 14 themselves in Thursday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 19 points on the other end of the floor. Aguilar's three steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 28-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 47-27 halftime deficit.
Minnesota-Duluth continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 64-35 advantage before Minot State went on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a three from Hamling, to trim its deficit to 64-44 with 31 seconds to go in the third. Minnesota-Duluth countered and stretched its lead to 67-44 heading into the fourth. Minot State took advantage of five Minnesota-Duluth turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.
Minot State narrowed its deficit to 73-51 before going on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 73-59 with 4:44 to go in the contest. The Beavers were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 83-69. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 25 points.
