ST. CLOUD, MN --Jessica Mogen, Maya Aguilar and Emma Mogen combined to score 49 of Minot State's 62 total points, but the Beavers fell to the St. Cloud State Huskies 72-62 on the road Saturday.
Jessica Mogen led the Beavers (8-17, 7-11) with 18 points. Aguilar added 17 points and Emma Mogen chipped in as well a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
The Minot State defense held St. Cloud State shooters to only 35.3 percent from the field, including 25 percent from three-point range.
How It Happened
After falling behind 12-6, Minot State went on a 5-0 run with 5:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Katie Aberle, to narrow its deficit to 12-11. St. Cloud State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Beavers down 16-11 entering the second quarter.
St. Cloud State kept adding to that lead, building an 18-11 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Jessica Mogen, to narrow its deficit to 18-16. St. Cloud State responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Beavers trailing 30-21 heading into halftime.
Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 50-35 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State took advantage of four St. Cloud State turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of takeaways.
St. Cloud State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 62-45 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Aberle's three, to shrink the deficit to 62-52 with 3:25 to go in the contest. The Beavers were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 72-62. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 16 of its 27 points in the paint.
