Beavers have record-breaking day, repeat winners at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. – Day 2 of the Bison Open was as eventful and record-breaking as you could get with the regular season winding down for Minot State Track and Field.

The North Dakota State Bison was the host school as they welcomed several teams from around the region, including division I competition.

For the speedy Beavers, they keep on the momentum for another week. Three records went down, and a new one was established today, including one all-time that stood for 32 years.

There were individual victories for Bailey Wride, who had one of the other record-breaking races, and Holter Bridwell. Devan Daniels, Nasir Dilworth, and Kaydee Boyce also set records all while the Beavers added 3 repeat winners in the Bison Open. Summer Krebsbach, Ramon Duran, and Peyton Tuhy all worked their way back to the mountaintop in their respective events. There were also a lot of top 5 finishes by the Beavers as the day went along.

Starting off hot in the men's 110-meter hurdles, Nasir Dilworth made a statement. He broke an all-time record that stood since 1993. He finished at 14.33, which bests Dave Knutson's old record of 14.44 seconds.

Moving into the women's 800 meters, Bailey Wride broke an NCAA-era record and jumped to 2nd all-time after finishing at 2 minutes and 13.33 seconds. She passed Sidra Sadowsky's old record of 2:13.64 set last season. Speaking of Sadowsky, she pulled in 2nd place right behind Wride in the 800M. Her final time was 2:13.99.

Kaydee Boyce has entered the chat in the women's heptathlon. With 3,901 points, she establishes the first NCAA-era record in the event and moves into 2nd all-time.

While on the topic of NCAA-era records, enter Devan Daniels. His performance in the men's 100 meters was good for just that as he hit 10.71 seconds, surpassing Glyn Borel's 10.74 seconds (2015). Daniels also secured the 4th spot in all-time team history with that mark.

Holter Bridwell also capped off his first win in a couple weeks in the men's 3000 steeplechase. The Junior went for 9 minutes and 52.53 seconds.

Joining Wride and Bridwell were Krebsbach, Duran, and Tuhy who capped off repeat victories as they continued to follow up with another successful meet. For Krebsbach, she hit 24.53 seconds when crossing the finish line in the women's 200 meters. She also gathered a 3rd-place result in the 100 meters with a time of 11.93 seconds. Camryn Adams was also within striking distance as she placed 3rd in the 200m at 25.05 seconds.

Just like Wride, Tuhy also competed in the 800 meters for the men. He compiled a time of 1 minute and 54.14 seconds to outrun everybody. As for the other individual winner, Duran was once again money in the men's 400-meter hurdles. His final time was 54.08 seconds. In 2nd place was another Beaver, Zaccharius Brown. He completed a time of 55.50 seconds.

The men's 4x100 relay also joined the fun and racked up a 1st-place finish of their own. Deuce Carr, Devan Daniels, Zaccharius Brown, and Ben Holte combined forces to get 42.41 seconds.

Grayson Bonilla and Jake Jenkins saw top 3 finishes in the men's 5000 meters. Bonilla was 2nd at 16:02.83, while Jenkins finished 3rd at 16:03.78.

In the women's 5000 meters, Emery Smith stepped up again after her 10k record in Wisconsin last week. She finished 2nd at 18 minutes and 8.96 seconds. Julie Folk had a breakout moment in the women's 3000 steeplechase. Her time was 13 minutes and 38.97 seconds which commanded 2nd amongst the others.

Afton Wride was feeling it in the triple jump. In 4th place, she reached a mark of 11.11m (36 feet and 5 ½ inches). In the women's Javelin, Erica Nelson collected 3rd after reaching 37.80m.

In the men's field events, Dallas Reese got 4th in the shot put after recording 14.65m (48 feet and .75 inches). Evan Hartt finished 3rd in the discus, where he landed 47.02m (154 feet and 3 inches). Hartt also tallied in the hammer at 48.29m (158 feet and 5 inches), which was good for 5th.

A lot of good came out of Fargo as the Beavers head back home to prepare for their final regular season meet in Bismarck. Minot State will be in the capital city in a quick turnaround on April 30 for the Marauders/Mystics Tune-Up. Start time is TBA.
