Softball to head to NSIC Tournament to face Dragons in round one

MINOT, N.D- The Beavers finished up regular season play this past weekend with doubleheaders against St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth. The softball team finished regular season play with a record of 15-13.
 
Throughout the season, the Beavers swept the University of Sioux Falls, University of Mary, Southwest Minnesota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and Winona State University.
 
The Beavers will now look onward to the NSIC Tournament where they placed as the 7th seed. The team will start round one by taking on the 10th seed, the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons, on Wednesday. The winner of the dual will move onto quarterfinals on Thursday and face the 2nd seed, Minnesota State University Mankato Mavericks.
 
The Beavers are led at the plate by Anna LaCount (.368 BA), Sara Van Wickler (.331 BA), and Taylor Smith (.327 BA). Consistently starting on the mound for the Beavers is the duo of Reegan Floyd and Jasmine Blizzard. Floyd (13-10) and Blizzard (26-20) both boast a 2.20 ERA. Floyd pitched 149.1 innings and Blizzard 133.2 over regular season play.
 
The last time the Beavers met the Dragons, the Beavers came out on top in both games of the doubleheader with scores of 11-3 and 5-4. Highlights of game one included Anna LaCount smoking two home runs, Taylor Smith stealing two bases, and Reegan Floyd going six innings and giving up zero earned runs. In game two, Jasmine Blizzard went the full seven innings, Taylor Smith went 3-for-4 with two triples, and Abbey Kelley went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Sarah Misner helped secure the second win of the day in a walk-off fashion.
 
The Dragons finished conference play with a record of 11-17. Offensively, the Dragons are led by Avery Steffan (.409 BA), Annika Norman (.353 BA), and Eliya Johnson (.333 BA). The Dragons pitching staff leans on the trio of Teagan Clemmons, Avery Steffen, and Bryanna Farman. Clemmons (6-9) has an ERA of 4.01 over 110 innings pitched. Steffan holds a 5-8 record with a 4.31 ERA over 86 innings of work. Farman, who has a 5.36 ERA, has a record of 4-9 over 64 complete innings.
 
The NSIC Softball Tournament will be located at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Beavers will meet the Dragons for round one of the tournament at 2:30pm on Wednesday.
