DULUTH, Minn. – Minot State sophomore
Zaccharius Brown provided the highlight of the weekend for the Beavers.
Racing in the middle of the pack early in the challenging 400-meter hurdles, Brown turned the final corner and turned on the afterburners, racing to a 2
nd-place finish and All-NSIC honors Saturday on the final day of the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Minnesota Duluth.
Brown brought home the top finish of the weekend for the Minot State men's and women's track and field teams as the Beaver men were 10
th with 17 team points and the women 12
th with 12 team points.
Brown's runner-up champion finish earned Minot State 8 of those team points as he finished in 53.53 seconds, second only to Minnesota State Moorhead's Manjot Singh who won the event title in 52.70.
The Beaver hurdlers' effort was one of three performances that added to the Minot State men's team total on Saturday as Evan Harrt and
Peyton Tuhy had career-best days in the discus and 800 meters, respectively, earning a place on the podium as well.
Hartt turned in his best-ever throw in the discus by more than 14 feet, finishing 4th in the NSIC with a throw of 168 feet, 10 inches, also an NCAA qualifying mark that ranks 45th in the nation. Hartt's throw is an all-time Minot State record and broke the previous all-time best of Ed Brezinski of 165-11 he threw in 1975.
Meanwhile, Tuhy ran his fastest 800 ever in 1 minute, 53.46 seconds to finish 5
th in the NSIC.
While they led the way for the Minot State men,
Summer Krebsbach,
Erica Nelson, and the women's 4x400-meter relay team set the tone for the ladies on the final day of the Championships as each added points to the Beaver women's team total.
Krebsbach earned a spot on the podium in the women's 200 meters with a time of 25.03 seconds and an 8
th-place finish, while Nelson also was 8
th in the javelin with a throw of 123-10 to land on the podium.
Krebsbach also figured into the Minot State women's best finish on the day as the Beavers were 7
th in the 4x400 relay in 3 minutes, 56.64 seconds. Krebsbach ran the final leg of the relay, finishing strong after the performance of teammates
Bailey Wride,
Sidra Sadowsky, and
Afton Wride.
The NSIC Championships wrap up the season for the majority of the Minot State track and field teams' student-athletes with only the NCAA Outdoor National Championships left on the schedule.
Krebsbach, Harry, and men's hurdler
Nasir Dilworth are the only Beavers to hit NCAA qualifying standards this season as Krebsbach hit an NCAA mark in the women's 100 meters (11.73 seconds), Dilworth in the men's 110-meter hurdles (14.10 seconds), and Hartt in the discus (168-10). They will wait and see if their time or distance is fast enough or far enough to earn a spot at the NCAA National Championships hosted by Colorado State Pueblo, May 22-24.
The NCAA Championship field will be announced the evening of Tuesday, May 13.
