MINOT, ND -- The Minot State volleyball team won the first set, but couldn't hang on and lost 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 20-25, 22-25) to Brandon on Friday at home at MSU Dome in the finale of the 2nd annual Live 1st International Bank and Trust Homecoming Classic.
The non-conference loss moved Minot State to 1-7 on the season.
The Beavers offense was paced by Paulina Kowalska, who finished with 11 kills on the day, and by Jasmin Bell, who had 10. Maya Vibeto also pitched in with five in the contest. Defensively, had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Caton Pearcy's 21, 13 from Haley Saunders, and 12 more from Logan Drennan.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Beavers grabbed control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never looked back to win 25-16. Minot State opened up its biggest lead, nine points, to close out the set. Minot State also supplemented their offense with six aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Minot State then fell in set two 25-23, evening things at a set each. The Beavers fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Minot State then lost their second set in a row, falling behind in the match two sets to one. The Beavers dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set 25-20.
SET 4 | Minot State lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-22. Brandon grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 and Minot State was never able to recover in a set that was tied up five times before the took over in the second half of the stanza.
