Minot State women 14th, men 18th at prestigious Roy Griak meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Bailey Wride led the way for the women, one of three Top 100 performances for Minot State, as the Beavers were 14th on Friday at the Roy Griak Invitational cross country meet.

Jake Jenkins once again led the way for the men, adding another Top 100 finish as he was 92nd for the Minot State men, who finished 18th as a team at one of the largest collegiate meets of the season.

"I think a little bit of an up-and-down day with more positives to take away from it than negative," Minot State head coach Steven Schultz said.

"The course was just racing really slow today across the board for everybody, so we're just trying to not look too deeply into how the finishing times played out."

While the times might have been off, the Beavers' performance in their second meet of the fall wasn't as the Minot State women continued to be a strong team in the middle of a power-packed field, while the men climbed in the standings.

"I think the guys are showing that they've improved from last year at this time," Schultz said. "The health and consistent training is starting to pay off a bit there.

"Jake is proving again to be the anchor of our team, and Camden had a smart race by moving up throughout."

Jenkins led the way for the second time this season for Minot State as he was 92nd overall in 28 minutes, 35.3 seconds on the men's 8-kilometer course for the Beavers, who scored 525 team points.

Holter Bridwell was next for Minot State as he finished 149th in 29:24.6, then came Jasmin, who was 169th in 29:55.1.

Nikita Neyshtadt was next for the Beavers, finishing 196th in 30:32.9, and Peyton Tuhy rounded out the scoring finishers as he finished 202nd in 30:44.1.

Nolan Berglof was 225th in 31:51.4 for the Beaver men, then came Isaac Rathbun, who was 250th in 33:48.4, and Auston Lemer was 261st in 35:09.4.

On the women's side, Wride and teammate Emery Smith swapped the one-two spots from the season's first race with Wride coming in 35th in 24:29.5 on the women's 6K course, and Smith close behind in 49th in 24:53.6.

"I think Emery, Bailey, and Julie had fantastic races for our women moving up throughout the entire race and finishing well," Schultz said.

Julie Folk added a top 100 finish as she was 92nd in 25:46.1 for the Beavers, who scored 414 team points.

Nicole Reeves finished 184th in 27:33.7, and Addyson Wendt was 212th in 28:22.5, rounding out Minot State's team scoring finishers, while Natalie Becker added a 222nd-place finish in 29:06.2 for the Beavers.

Michigan Tech won the men's team title with 35 points on the day, while Drew Kolodge from Crown Running won the men's individual title in 25:22.5.
On the women's side, Winona State dominated with the top three individual finishers, led by race champion Sophia Taarun, who won in 22:19.4. The Warriors took the team title with 27 points.

The second of four regular-season meets for Minot State, the Beavers return to race action the first weekend of October, competing at the Jimmie Invitational hosted by Jamestown on October 3.
