Beavers fall in 5-set match to Winona State

MINOT, ND --The Minot State volleyball team fell to the Winona State Warriors 3-2 (25-17, 15-25, 25-19, 11-25, 3-15) Saturday at home at MSU Dome.

The loss dropped Minot State's record to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in NSIC play.

Jasmin Bell finished with 15 kills on the day to lead the Beavers attack. Defensively, four players reached double figures in digs, highlighted by Caton Pearcy's 17, 12 from Maya Vibeto, and 12 more from Jaina Macaulay.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Beavers seized an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-17. Minot State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Beavers took over the lead. The Beavers opening set win came in a stanza where 17 of their 25 points came via the kill.

SET 2 | Minot State then dropped the second set 25-15, evening things at a set each. Minot State trailed by as many as 10 points as Winona State grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up six times before the Warriors took over the lead.

SET 3 | Minot State then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Beavers won the set 25-19. Minot State took the lead for good at 15-14 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Beavers took over in the second half of the stanza. Minot State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking seven Winona State attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 12 Winona State attacking errors on the way to victory.

SET 4 | Minot State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Warriors forced a fifth set with a 25-11 victory. The Beavers trailed by as many as 14 points as Winona State grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 and Minot State wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up just once before the Warriors took over.

SET 5 | Minot State and Winona State went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Warriors took sets four and five, including winning the fifth set 15-3, and the match. The Beavers trailed by as many as 12 points before losing the fifth set.
