MINOT, ND --Isaiah Alexander, Darik Dissette, and Deuce Benjamin combined to score 51 of Minot State's 67 total points, but the Beavers fell to the Minnesota State Mavericks 72-67 at home Saturday.
Alexander led the Beavers (8-8, 5-5) with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Dissette added 19 points and seven rebounds and Benjamin chipped in as well with 11 points.
Minot State's defense held Minnesota State to only 16.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
After falling behind 38-24, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 1:48 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Carson Yale, to narrow its deficit to 38-31. Minnesota State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Beavers down 39-31 entering halftime.
Minnesota State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 53-38 advantage before Minot State went on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 53-46 with 10:44 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept their comeback going, but Minnesota State managed to hold on for the 72-67 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 36 points in the lane.
