MINOT, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team got a 24-point showing from the bench, but fell 95-56 to the Minnesota State Mavericks at home Saturday.
Taryn Hamling led the Beavers (7-10, 4-6) with 14 points. Lara Dobbins also added eight points and Maya Aguilar helped out with two points, 11 rebounds and two steals.
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-25 halftime deficit.
Minnesota State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 55-34 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Hamling, to trim its deficit to 55-39 with 4:59 to go in the third. Minnesota State countered and stretched its lead to 67-44 heading into the fourth. Minot State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Minnesota State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 89-47 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 89-52 with 2:19 to go in the contest. Minnesota State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 95-56. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 12 points.
