MARSHALL, MN --Taryn Hamling collected 20 points, but the Minot State women's basketball team fell to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs 92-73 on the road Friday.
Hamling added two blocks to her 20-point game to lead the Beavers (7-11, 4-7). Maya Aguilar helped out with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Jessica Mogen chipped in with 10 points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-9, Minot State went on a 10-0 run with 4:34 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Hamling, to take a 19-14 lead. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 19-18 advantage.
Southwest Minnesota State rallied to take a 49-34 lead before Minot State went on a 5-0 run starting at the 41 seconds mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Mogen, to narrow its deficit to 49-39, a score that would hold until halftime.
Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 73-55 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 92-73. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 18 points in the paint.
