MINOT, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 79-64 to the Mary Marauders at home Saturday.
Taryn Hamling led the Beavers (7-8, 4-4) with 15 points and two steals. Lara Dobbins tacked on seven points and three steals and Jaime Skeggs helped out with nine points off of the bench.
Minot State forced 13 Mary turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 11 points on the offensive end of the floor. Dobbins' three steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 6:41 left in the first quarter to take an 8-4 lead. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 12-11 advantage. Minot State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 12 points close to the basket.
The Beavers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 41-25.
Following halftime, Minot State kept the Marauders from growing their lead before going on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 43-33 with 8:23 to go in the third. Mary countered and stretched its lead to 62-42 heading into the fourth.
Mary kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 77-55 advantage before Minot State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Taury Hight's three, to shrink the deficit to 77-64 with 1:04 to go in the contest. Mary responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-64. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 22 points.
