SAINT PAUL, MN --The Minot State men's basketball team saw all five starters score in double figures, but it was not enough in a 91-88 loss to the Concordia-Saint Paul Golden Bears on the road Friday.
The Beavers (8-13, 5-10) had five players score in double figures, led by Trey Brandt, who had 21 points and two steals. Deuce Benjamin tacked on 19 points and Darik Dissette chipped in as well with 15 points, six assists and five steals.
Led by Carson Yale's two offensive rebounds, Minot State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 18 second chance points.
Minot State did a great job disrupting Concordia-Saint Paul shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Yale led the way individually for the Beavers with two rejections.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 25-19 advantage, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 10:04 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Yale, to increase its lead to 33-19. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 45-38 advantage. Minot State took advantage of four offensive rebounds to score nine second chance points out of 45 total in the period
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Brandt's three, to grow the lead to 63-54 with 12:23 to go in the contest. Concordia-Saint Paul then asserted control, outscoring the Beavers 37-25 the rest of the way to hand Minot State the 91-88 loss. Minot State got out on the break in the period, scoring 12 fast break points.
