Five Beavers score in double digits in Minot State's 67-62 loss to Winona State

WINONA, Minn. -- Five Beavers scored in double figures, but Minot State fell to the Winona State Warriors 67-62 on the road Saturday in NSIC action.

The Beavers (8-14 overall, 5-11 NSIC) had five players score in double figures, led by Isaiah Alexander, who had 12 points and six rebounds. Deuce Benjamin tacked on 11 points and three steals, and Kiku Parker Jr helped out with 11 points off of the bench.

Minot State out-rebounded Winona State 38-35 in Saturday's game, led by Lovasoa Andriatsarafara's 13 boards. The Beavers also pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second-chance points.

Minot State's defense held Winona State to only 39.7 percent shooting from the field.
 

How It Happened

After falling behind 21-17, Minot State went on a 9-0 run with 3:12 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Trey Brandt, to take a 26-21 lead, a score that would hold until halftime. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 26 points close to the basket.

Winona State proceeded to take a 50-45 lead before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Brandt's jumper, to even the score at 50 all with 5:53 to go in the contest. The Beavers could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Warriors outscored them 17-12 the rest of the way to hand Minot State the 67-62 loss. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 36 points in the lane.
