MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team had 11 fewer turnovers than Bemidji State in a 72-65 victory over the Beavers at home Thursday.
The Beavers (9-14, 6-11) had four players score in double figures, led by Deuce Benjamin, who had 21 points and two steals. Darik Dissette added 17 points and six rebounds and Isaiah Alexander chipped in as well with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Minot State out-rebounded Bemidji State 36-28 in Thursday's game, led by Alexander's seven boards. The Beavers also collected 15 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second chance points.
Minot State forced 16 Bemidji State turnovers while committing only five themselves in Thursday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Benjamin's two steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 30-20, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 1:50 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 30-26, a score that would hold until halftime.
Bemidji State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 47-36 advantage before Minot State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Alexander's layup, to shrink the deficit to 47-45 with 10:56 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept the rally going and took the lead for good on Logan Sipple's free throw with 00:35 left for a 72-65 comeback victory. Minot State capitalized on eight Bemidji State turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.
