MINOT, ND --Deuce Benjamin hit a buzzer-beating shot with just three seconds left in the game to lead the Minot State men's basketball team past the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 85-83 at home Saturday.
The Beavers (10-14, 7-11) had four players score in double figures, led by Benjamin, who had 26 points, four assists and two steals. Darik Dissette tacked on 17 points and two steals and Isaiah Alexander helped out with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Minot State took advantage of great ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 16 assists on 31 made field goals. Alexander's five assists were the most for the Beavers.
Minot State forced 15 Minnesota-Duluth turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Alexander's three steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 22-21, Minot State went on a 5-0 run with 9:24 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Trey Brandt, to take a 26-22 lead. The Beavers then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 49-42 advantage.
Minnesota-Duluth proceeded to take a 74-72 lead before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Brandt's three, to seize a 79-74 lead with 3:52 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still held on for the 85-83 win. Minot State capitalized on eight Minnesota-Duluth turnovers in the period, collecting nine points off those turnovers.
