CROOKSTON, Minn. -- Deuce Benjamin totaled 22 points, but the Minot State men's basketball team fell to the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 72-69 on the road Thursday.
Benjamin added five rebounds and three steals to his 22 point game to lead the Beavers (10-15, 7-12). Isaiah Alexander helped out with 12 points and two steals and Kiku Parker Jr. chipped in with 11 points and two steals coming off the bench.
Minot State pulled down 29 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to Minnesota Crookston's 28, led by eight boards from Trey Brandt.
The Minot State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday's game, forcing 16 Minnesota Crookston turnovers while committing eight. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the offensive end of the floor. Darik Dissette led the way individually for the Beavers with three steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 15-10, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 12:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dissette, to take an 18-15 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 32-30.
After intermission, Minot State managed to gain control and had a 52-50 lead before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 58-50 with 9:17 to go in the contest. Minnesota Crookston then asserted control, outscoring the Beavers 22-11 the rest of the way to hand Minot State the 72-69 loss. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 39 points in the lane.
