MOORHEAD, MN --Deuce Benjamin hit a dagger jumper with 1:01 left in the fourth quarter to put Minot State ahead 69-62, and the Beavers secured a 74-67 win against the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons on the road Saturday.
The Beavers (11-15, 8-12) had five players score in double figures, led by Darik Dissette, who had 19 points and nine rebounds. Trey Brandt tacked on 18 points and Carson Yale chipped in as well with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Dissette pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Minot State offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into 17 second chance points.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 29-28 advantage, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 2:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Benjamin, to increase its lead to 35-28. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 35-31 advantage. Minot State took advantage of six offensive rebounds to score six second chance points out of 35 total in the period
Minnesota State Moorhead proceeded to take a 62-60 lead before Minot State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Benjamin's jumper, to seize a 69-62 lead with 1:01 to go in the contest. The Beavers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 74-67 win. Minot State made the most of seven offensive rebounds to tack on 11 second chance points out of 39 total in the period.
