SAINT PAUL, MN --The Minot State women's basketball team held Concordia-Saint Paul to just 38.5 percent shooting from the field, but fell 75-54 to the Golden Bears on the road Friday.
The Beavers (9-13, 6-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Taryn Hamling, who had 17 points, five steals and two blocks. Maya Aguilar tacked on 11 points and Tiyahna Trottier added six points.
The Minot State defense was a problem in Friday's game, forcing 14 Concordia-Saint Paul turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Hamling's five steals led the way individually for the Beavers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2-0, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 8:53 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Aguilar, to take a 7-2 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 15-14.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 40-30 halftime deficit.
Concordia-Saint Paul continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 44-31 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Maya Vibeto, to trim its deficit to 44-36 with 5:51 to go in the third. Concordia-Saint Paul countered and stretched its lead to 56-43 heading into the fourth. Minot State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 13 total points.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 75-54. Minot State took advantage of six Concordia-Saint Paul turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of those takeaways.
