MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State golf teams will do something they haven't done in their time in the NCAA: Play host to a tournament.
The Beavers welcome the men's and women's teams from Jamestown and Mary, along with the women's programs from Bemidji State and Minnesota State Moorhead, for the 36-hole, two-day Batte in the North at the Beowulf Golf Club.
The first tournament hosted by Minot State in the Beavers' NCAA era gets underway at 9 a.m. on Monday, then the tournament concludes with players starting the final 18 holes at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
"We are all ecstatic to host this week at Beowulf!," Minot State head golf coach
Gary Brekhus said. "Not only us, but everyone I've talked to in the community is incredibly excited to bring collegiate golf to Minot!"
And while hosting provides some excitement for Minot State, the way the Beavers have played as of late only adds to the excitement.
"I look forward to both teams feeling a sense of comfort in their backyard!<" coach="" brekhus="" said. "the="" girls="" coming="" off="" a="" pretty="" big="" win="" should="" be="" in="" a="" great="" spot="" for="" some="" high="" finishes,="" and="" the="" men="" are="" pushing="" for="" some="" big="" finishes="" after="" having="" some="" struggles="" last="">">
"I'm looking forward to some great score here at home!"
The Minot State women come into their home tournament after winning the United Printing Marauders Invitational last week, led by individual tournament champion Emily Watts.
As for the Minot State men, they saw Max Palmer start his season with a second-place finish at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl, and last week Kasen Rostad was third at the Marauders Invitational, giving the Beaver men two Top 5 finishes already this season.
This week's home tournament will be the fourth event on the fall schedule for Minot State, which wraps up its fall season next week at the USF Fall Invitational hosted by Sioux Falls at the Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa.
